 5. The One True Church

Catholic Position

¶811
“This is the sole Church of Christ, which in the Creed we profess to be
one, holy, catholic and apostolic.”

¶816
For it is through Christ’s Catholic Church alone, which is the
universal help toward salvation, that the fullness of the means of
salvation can be obtained.

¶818
All who have been justified by faith in Baptism are incorporated into
Christ; they therefore have a right to be called Christians, and with
good reason are accepted as brothers in the Lord by the children of the
Catholic Church.

Scripture Says

Matthew 16:18

18  And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this
rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail
against it.

1 Corinthians 10:4

4 …for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

Ephesians 2:20

20  And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and
prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the
chief corner stone
;

Commentary

  • Is Peter really the rock?
  • Is the Catholic church the only, one true church?
