God saved me at the age of 25 in September, 1939, as I turned from works, merits, sacraments, and trusted totally in the finished once-for-all blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross for me, never to be repeated, continued, renewed, or re-applied.

Mrs. Florence Cassebaum, a neighbor, invited us to attend evangelistic meetings at a Fundamental Church, Grace Chapel in Havertown, Pa. I had been confirmed in the Episcopal Church of the Redemption, Philadelphia, by Bishop Hart, at the age of 12. Later, I completed the correspondence course in doctrine given by the Roman Catholic Knights of Columbus. The night of my conversion, I saw from the Bible the errors of ritualism, formalism, godfathers, infant baptism, dependence upon systems and organizations, whether religious or fraternal (John 1:12). I saw that Biblical conversion results in a change of life. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
